I’m not talking catalogues for offices or warehouse storage solutions, these are glossy magazines for individuals.
In the style of home interior magazines, these publications show wardrobes and pantries bursting with all sorts of nifty storage ideas and colour co-ordinated baskets and boxes.
Maybe I’m a bit late to the party with this but I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
You may think ‘ah, but your a minimalist, you must love organising and storage and keeping everything you own hidden away’ – the answer is no.
I don’t believe in organising, I believe in getting rid of stuff I don’t need. If you’re hiding stuff away in boxes (no matter how colour co-ordinated and pretty those boxes are) there’s a good chance you don’t need it.
Of course everything has it’s place in my home but there’s just not that many things and certainly not enough things to warrant umpteen storage boxes.
I don’t think buying more things to store other things you don’t use is a good idea.
Instead, give those items another chance by donating or gifting them to someone who needs them and then, throw out that storage magazine (don’t forget to recycle of course!)
